WoWII Quilt - donated by Baroness Morwenna Trevethan
Baroness Morwenna has graciously donated this quilt for the Breast Cancer auction which is being held on Friday night. Tickets will be sold all weekend and the winner announced during court on Saturday. Her description of the quilt is below the photo.
This is being given in honor of my mother and one of my sisters (both of them breast cancer survivors), as well as a recent Queen of surpassing grace and courage. As of three weeks ago, the quilt is finished.
The quilt is an extra-long queen (~82 x 110"), so it will fit nicely on almost any adult bed, including king-size. (My own similar quilt is used regularly on my king-size waterbed.) It is machine-stitched and hand-tied. The design is based on the Log Cabin quilt pattern. The colors are those of the two opponents: green, white, and black, with gold embroidery floss used for the tieing. The actual layout of the design is somewhat of an allegory of the event. Our 'conflict' with the Barony of Black Diamond is at the center of this year's War, so there is a black diamond (which actually comes out more grey or soft black) at the center of the quilt. Because Black Diamond will be beset on all sides by Sacred Stone during the War, the center diamond is surrounded by four soft green diamonds. Because of the way the quilt blocks are laid out, the quilt ends up with sets of green or greyish-black wings surrounding the diamonds. (You may have to use a small bit of imagination here.) The 'backing' (financial) for this event comes from Sacred Stone, so the quilt backing is entirely green.
