Baroness Morwenna, Kingdom Chirurgeon and consummate supporter of War of the Wings and many regional events has made another quilt to be raffled at the upcoming War of the Wings as part of the Susan G. Koman Foundation for breast cancer research.
Her words below give you a glimpse of the dedication and thought she's put into this labor of love. Tickets will be sold at WoWIII throughout Friday and Saturday for $1 a chance or $10 a dozen.
This is being given in honor of my mother and one of my sisters (both of them breast cancer survivors), as well as my Baroness and a recent Queen, women of surpassing grace and courage.
The quilt is an extra-long queen (~94 x 105"), so it will fit nicely on almost any adult bed, including king-size. (My own similar quilt is used regularly on my king-size waterbed.) It is machine-stitched and hand-tied. The colors are blue and white, in honor of our fair kingdom. They range from a frosty bluish white to a very dark royal blue. The design is based on the 'Lover's Knot' quilt pattern, because even in the best of kingdoms, relationships and friendships sometimes get a bit tangled and knotted up. But, because the SCA is also about having fun and enjoying our various activities, the backing is pure whimsy: kings and queens, dragons and castles, jesters and knights, and even some damsels who may or may not be in distress.
